About Waiheke Island
Waiheke Island is renowned for its great weather, splendid beaches, picturesque vineyards, artists and native bush.
Just 35 minutes from downtown Auckland by ferry, Waiheke Island has a permanent population of about 8,000, of which nearly 1,000 commute to the city each day to work. In the summer, the island's population swells to over 30,000 as holiday-makers come to enjoy this little paradise.
Waiheke is the most popular of the gulf islands and also one of the largest. The island enjoys a slow pace of life and a fine climate.
There are many picturesque bays and safe beaches, making it a great place to relax. Vineyards and olive groves are scattered over the island.
The island is home to many artists who exhibit their work in local galleries and craft shops.
